The ‘very corrupt and high-flying’ IFS officer Abhay Kant Pathak may get compulsory retirement from his service. This was recommended by Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik in a letter to the Centre. It is for the first time that an All India Services Officer has been recommended by the Odisha Government for compulsory retirement on grounds of corruption, the CM mentioned in his letter.
The letter of the CM comes after Abhay Kant Pathak was arrested by Vigilance. According to the letter, Pathak was making cash deposits of his ill-gotten wealth in his son Akash Pathak’s bank accounts. He was further helping his son deceive people by pretending as MD of Tata Motors, the letter added.
Pathak’s son, Akash has also been arrested by the Crime Branch for forgery, cheating and duping several unemployed youth by promising them employment at Tata Motors. In the letter to the Centre, CM wrote that Pathak was himself using expensive cars from the ill-gotten wealth. During the lockdown period, he and his son were flying across India in chartered planes and staying in luxurious hotels, the letter said.
Abhay Pathak along with his son Akash is currently in judicial custody following arrests. Moreover, Gopalpur MLA Pradeep Panigrahi has also been arrested for his links with Akash in connection with the job fraud. Panigrahi’s daughter was scheduled to marry Akash on December 11.
